The Nouvelle Comédie de Genève is part of the new development in the Eaux-Vives railway

station district.

Next to solving the complex programmatic and logistic puzzle and creating a festive and acoustically

sound theatre hall; BaksvanWengerden Architecten see the opportunity to activate city life around

the new theatre, at any time of the day, as crucial for its success. This theatre literally opens itself

towards the city, referring to the archetype of a forum or an amphitheatre.

The two theatre floors have the possibility to perform to an outside audience, or simultaneously to

the inside and outside. The building offers half of its envelope to create a public forum level to the

esplanade. The public space of the esplanade and the forum penetrates into the theatre dissolving

the limit between the life of the theatre and the life of the city.
